Change in Encryption Software Recommendation: Security Advisory
TrueCrypt, an open-source software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device), is no longer recommended by the ISEA, ITS team due to a recently discovered security vulnerabilities.
Windows users who utilize TrueCrypt to encrypt their hard drives should take the following action:
- Switch to VeraCrypt (latest release 1.15 as of Saturday, September 26) as soon as possible
- Select “TrueCrypt Mode” in VeraCrypt via Settings > Preferences > Mount Options menu / tabs for TrueCrypt volumes to be mounted by VeraCrypt
Linux and MacOS users are not affected by this vulnerability, but are encouraged to switch to VeraCrypt because TrueCrypt is no longer being maintained.
