We are pleased to announce the launch of U of T’s first Information Security Awareness and Education website

March 23, 2017

In October 2016, University of Toronto launched a new education and awareness program to help create a stronger cybersecurity culture and to help educate the U of T community on the importance of information security. The goal of the program is to provide diverse resources, from physical educational banner campaigns, to information sessions and tutorials, educational web content, videos, events and other focused services for faculty, staff, students and IT professionals at U of T.

For the past several months, the team put in place to envision, develop and execute the program has been actively implementing a number of program milestones, including the October Cyber Security Awareness month, Data Privacy Day, Information Security booth, a series of monthly information sessions attended by hundreds of staff and faculty, and the development of phishing education program. In conjunction with that work, an education website was developed with tailored content geared toward four different audiences at the University: Faculty & TAs, Staff, Students and IT Professionals.

The website will serve as an evolving educational resource for the entire U of T community with accessible and easy to digest content on information security. Some examples include:

  • 2 minute educational videos on various topics from password security to travel
  • Information security checklists
  • Best practices for travel, device and personal information security
  • Phishing prevention education
  • A clearly outlined route for reporting security incidents
  • and more!

We have a number of planned activities in the next 12 months, including contests, and content exchange partnerships to assist in spreading the word about the new resources and to help us create a cyber secure culture at U of T.
